SUMMARY:Lessons for the Future! : A Three-Day Commemoration
DESCRIPTION:Lessons for the Future! : An Observance of the 71st Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education\, 66th Anniversary of the Prince Edward County School Closures\, and the 61st Anniversary of Griffin v. Prince Edward County\nLessons for the Future is a three-day commemoration co-sponsored by the Prince Edward County Branch of the NAACP and the Moton Museum\, taking place May 15–17. This program will focus on the long history of Black educators in Prince Edward County before\, during\, and after the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. We hope to highlight the phenomenal quality of educators in the county over the years and their experiences with public school desegregation. We will also give context to how educational decisions of the past continue to inform our present. \nThe observance concludes with the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner on Saturday\, May 17th at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Eric Griffin—son of the Rev. L. Francis Griffin and pastor of St. Stephen United Church of Christ in Greensboro\, NC—will serve as the keynote speaker. Tickets for the Freedom Fund Dinner are $35 and can be purchased from the Moton Museum or by contacting Mr. A.D. “Chuckie” Reid at chuckie1951@embarqmail.com or Reverend Pauline Stokes at stksmissionpaul@aol.com. \nAll programming on May 15th and 16th is free and open to the public\, with donations encouraged.
