DESCRIPTION:Featuring Farmville Native and Two-Time Oscar Winner Angus Wall \n\nWhat does it take to tell the story of someone the world already thinks it knows?\nOn Thursday\, October 1\, the Moton Museum welcomes filmmaker and Farmville native Angus Wall for a conversation about the making of Being Eddie\, his acclaimed Netflix documentary exploring the life and nearly five-decade career of Eddie Murphy. \nWall brings an extraordinary body of work to the conversation. The multiple Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmaker is known for his work on The Social Network\, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button\, along with HBO’s Game of Thrones and Ava DuVernay’s acclaimed documentary 13th. \nNow streaming on Netflix\, Being Eddie draws from Murphy’s own reflections\, archival material and conversations with artists and collaborators including Dave Chappelle\, Chris Rock\, Jamie Foxx\, Jerry Seinfeld\, Kevin Hart and Tracee Ellis Ross. The film was named Outstanding Documentary (Film) at the 57th NAACP Image Awards. \nWall’s visit to Farmville will begin earlier in the day at Prince Edward County High School\, where he will meet with the senior class for a program focused on arts and media. \nAt 6:00 p.m.\, the program moves to Moton Museum\, where Wall will meet with the community and take audiences behind the scenes of Being Eddie\, sharing how the documentary came together—from working with decades of material to the decisions that shaped the finished film. \nJoin us at Moton Museum\, a National Historic Landmark\, for an evening with Angus Wall and an inside look at the craft behind Being Eddie. \nFree and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:A Virtual Experience for Educators\nMonday\, October 12\, 2026\n10:00 a.m.\nVirtual Webinar | One Hour\nDesigned for 4th–12th Grade Educators \nWHAT DOES THE MOTON STORY LOOK LIKE IN YOUR CLASSROOM?\nThe Moton Education Team invites educators to Moton Refresh\, a one-hour virtual experience exploring history and civics content from 1865–1965. \nDesigned for 4th–12th grade educators who would like to learn more about Moton content and programming\, this session offers an opportunity to engage with Moton primary resources in an inquiry-based format. \nRather than simply hearing about the programming\, participants will experience it as students—then explore additional Moton resources that can support teaching and learning in their own classrooms. \nThe session will conclude with a Q&A\, providing educators an opportunity to share specific classroom needs with the Moton Education Team. \n\nREADY TO JOIN US?\nREGISTER FOR MOTON REFRESH \n\n  \nTHE MOTON STORY BY GRADE LEVEL\nMoton School Story is Moton’s primary educational program and has been adapted to provide grade-specific K–12 experiences. \nK–2 | Fairness & the Moton Story\nStudents learn about Barbara Johns and the student protesters using a fairness framework. Content is scaffolded to be understandable for young learners\, and teachers are asked to share typical classroom language to dovetail with the Moton educators. \nThis provides a basic foundational understanding of Moton. \nA suggested pre- or post-activity is reading students the Moton Museum’s STRIKE! Book: \nREAD STRIKE! \n3–5 | Virginia Studies\nThis version of Moton School Story connects with Virginia Studies. The program has been adapted to the 2023 standards to include Samuel Tucker and a more extensive study of the Reconstruction Amendments. \n6–8 | Civics\, Brown & Massive Resistance\nThis version is civic-minded\, with increased focus on the legal aspects of Brown v.
