Over his career\, he has secured grants from the Fulbright Commission\, the U.S. Department of Education\, the North Carolina Arts Council\, and the National Writing Project. \nOf Cherokee and Meherrin descent\, Resa Crane Bizzaro earned degrees in Creative Writing\, Literature\, and Composition. Her work encompasses Native identity rhetorics\, intergenerational PTSD\, southern literature\, and contemporary poetry. After teaching for more than 35 years\, she now works as an independent scholar. \nTheir collaboration Fog at the Manassas Battlefield combines Patrick’s poems with photography and thematic reflection by Resa\, weaving together witness\, memory\, and the persistence of place. \n“Part séance\, part cautionary tale\, Fog at the Manassas Battlefield by Patrick Bizzaro is a deeply contemplative volume. Poem after poem\, it takes on\, indeed\, the “fog of war” through the lens of its obsessed\, near-haunted speaker who wanders the battlefield\, slipping though its harrowing portals to the past\, like a shade\, often conflating the past with the present\, the living and the dead.  Bizzaro’s extraordinary language possesses the forensic precision of a documentarian. It’s our oldest gathering—a moment to pause\, reflect\, and lift our shared hopes through prayer and quiet strength. It carries forward decades of community\, rooted in the story of Moton and the student-led legacy at the heart of civil rights. The breakfasts\, sponsored by Centra Southside Community Hospital\, offers a unique opportunity for individuals from all walks of life to unite in prayer\, reflecting on topics that resonate with our community’s needs and aspirations.  The Robert Russa Moton Museum is honored to continue this tradition and invites all community members to participate in these uplifting events. DESCRIPTION:Lessons for the Future! : An Observance of the 71st Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education\, 66th Anniversary of the Prince Edward County School Closures\, and the 61st Anniversary of Griffin v. Prince Edward County\nLessons for the Future is a three-day commemoration co-sponsored by the Prince Edward County Branch of the NAACP and the Moton Museum\, taking place May 15–17. This program will focus on the long history of Black educators in Prince Edward County before\, during\, and after the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. We hope to highlight the phenomenal quality of educators in the county over the years and their experiences with public school desegregation. We will also give context to how educational decisions of the past continue to inform our present. \nThe observance concludes with the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner on Saturday\, May 17th at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Eric Griffin—son of the Rev. L. Francis Griffin and pastor of St. Stephen United Church of Christ in Greensboro\, NC—will serve as the keynote speaker. Tickets for the Freedom Fund Dinner are $35 and can be purchased from the Moton Museum or by contacting Mr. A.D. “Chuckie” Reid at chuckie1951@embarqmail.com or Reverend Pauline Stokes at stksmissionpaul@aol.com. \nAll programming on May 15th and 16th is free and open to the public\, with donations encouraged. A native of Webster Springs\, West Virginia\, Bush holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University and an MFA in Creative Writing from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He currently serves as a poetry editor for Heartwood Literary Magazine. \nBush’s newest book\, Requiem for a Redbird\, is a stunning collection that weaves together loss\, love\, and resilience. It is both a tribute to West Virginia and a call for a more just and compassionate world. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Robert Russa Moton Museum on Saturday\, November 9th\, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for Profiles in Courage: Honoring Moton’s Veterans\, a special panel discussion in recognition of Veterans Day. \nThis program features a panel of Moton’s very own—Bob Hamlin\, Charlie Taylor\, Everett Berryman\, Cornell Walker\, and Chuckie Reid—Black veterans who proudly served our country and endured the disruptions caused by the Prince Edward County school closings. The event is free and open to the public. Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A session\, followed by a reception with light refreshments. \nWe invite the community to join us in honoring their service and hearing their remarkable stories.
