On Friday, September 12, 2025, the Robert Russa Moton Museum came alive with a full day of community partnership and learning through the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience. With the support of the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, the Virginia Children’s Book Festival, the Farmville Library, and members from Longwood University’s Faculty, Call Me MiSTER program , and Mortar Board, joined us as we welcomed more than 300 students from schools including Fuqua School and Cumberland Middle.
Throughout the day, students rotated through hands-on activities that blended exploration, history, art, literature, and the story of Civil Rights in Prince Edward County. Inside the Mobile Museum, they discovered Virginia’s journey from Revolution to Reconstruction to Civil Rights. In Moton’s own Children of Courage galleries, they stood in the very space where young people once demanded equality. And in the LCVA and VCBF reading and art stations, they found new ways to connect imagination with America’s ongoing pursuit of freedom and justice.
We are grateful to every partner, volunteer, and educator who made this experience possible. The energy and engagement of our students turned the day into something unforgettable.
If you missed Friday’s program, there’s still time. The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience will be open on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Moton Museum parking lot.
