Moss Scholars Program – Longwood University

C.G. Gordon Moss Scholars

The Moton Museum, in collaboration with Longwood University, is seeking one undergraduate student to serve as a Moss Scholar. The Moss Scholars Program commemorates the legacy of Dr. Gordon Moss, a longtime professor of history at Longwood and an advocate for the reopening of Prince Edward County schools and for equality and justice for all.

The Moss Scholar serves in a leadership role working closely with Moton Museum staff to strengthen connections between Longwood students, the museum, and the broader Farmville and Prince Edward County community. Responsibilities include supporting student engagement efforts, assisting with programs and events, and helping to create meaningful volunteer and learning opportunities connected to the Moton story.

The selected student will receive a $1,250 scholarship for the academic year.

Eligibility requirements include being a full time Longwood University student in good academic and disciplinary standing, currently classified as a junior or senior, and demonstrating a commitment to the values reflected in the legacy of Dr. Moss and the Moton Museum.

There is no formal application. Interested students should submit a resume and a brief cover letter outlining their interest and relevant experience.

Materials should be sent directly to:
