Featuring Farmville Native and Two-Time Oscar Winner Angus Wall

What does it take to tell the story of someone the world already thinks it knows?

On Thursday, October 1, the Moton Museum welcomes filmmaker and Farmville native Angus Wall for a conversation about the making of Being Eddie, his acclaimed Netflix documentary exploring the life and nearly five-decade career of Eddie Murphy.

Wall brings an extraordinary body of work to the conversation. The multiple Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmaker is known for his work on The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, along with HBO’s Game of Thrones and Ava DuVernay’s acclaimed documentary 13th.

Now streaming on Netflix, Being Eddie draws from Murphy’s own reflections, archival material and conversations with artists and collaborators including Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart and Tracee Ellis Ross. The film was named Outstanding Documentary (Film) at the 57th NAACP Image Awards.

Wall’s visit to Farmville will begin earlier in the day at Prince Edward County High School, where he will meet with the senior class for a program focused on arts and media.

At 6:00 p.m., the program moves to Moton Museum, where Wall will meet with the community and take audiences behind the scenes of Being Eddie, sharing how the documentary came together—from working with decades of material to the decisions that shaped the finished film.

Join us at Moton Museum, a National Historic Landmark, for an evening with Angus Wall and an inside look at the craft behind Being Eddie.
