Triumphant Joy: In Her Own Voice | Dr. Yemaja Jubilee, JD

April 10 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Step into the luminous world of Dr. Yemaja Jubilee, JD, where art, soul, and empowerment entwine with history.

Join us for a free screening of Hardships & Triumphant Joy, the Emmy Award-winning documentary that brings her story to the screen with depth, care, and creative vision.

Then stay for a conversation with the voices behind the work—Dr. Yemaja Jubilee, joined by Longwood University’s Emmy Award-winning producers Ryan Stouffer and Braden Hamilton ’26, along with Cainan Townsend, Executive Director of the Robert Russa Moton Museum—as they open up the process, the purpose, and what it means to carry a story like this forward. Hear directly from those who helped shape the film and the telling of her story, followed by a live Q&A with the audience.

Throughout the evening, the Strawberry Soul Band will move in and out of the program with sound that grounds the space, while Mistress of Ceremony Patricia Harper-Tunley guides the experience with intention and flow.

From the making of the film to her new book and what’s still unfolding, this evening offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from Dr. Yemaja Jubilee—where her voice, herstory, and her magic meet the history of the Jim Crow era.
