HISTORY, CIVICS, AND SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS — MOTON MUSEUM TEACHERS INSTITUTE IS FOR YOU

What if your summer professional learning placed you inside the Moton story, working with primary sources, archival materials, and oral histories while exploring the landscapes where civil rights history unfolded, alongside a cohort of educators who care deeply about how this history is taught?

We invite you to participate in the Moton Museum Teachers Institute (MMTI ’26), now in its sixth year — a three-day immersive onsite experience designed specifically for history and civics educators ready to deepen how they teach Jim Crow, judicial review, Brown v. Board of Education, and school desegregation through place-based learning at a National Historic Landmark.

Participants work closely with Moton Museum primary sources, archival collections, and oral histories; engage with museum scholarship and historic site interpretation; collaborate with fellow educators; and explore civil rights narratives through institute experiences at Twin Lakes State Park. The institute is offered in partnership with the John Marshall House, connecting constitutional history, law, and equity in ways that translate directly to the classroom.

What Educators Receive

The institute covers lodging, meals, and all materials for the full three-day experience. Upon completion, participants earn recertification points, receive a $250 stipend, and have the $20 registration fee fully refunded, making this a funded and fully supported professional learning opportunity.

“This isn’t just professional development. It’s a movement to empower the next generation.”
