“What a joy to discover a young genius blooming in our hills here in West Virginia, celebrating who he is and where he comes from. Read this. It will make you proud.” – Nikki Giovanni, Celebrated Literary Icon
This March, the Robert Russa Moton Museum invites you to participate in a special book club experience as we explore Requiem for a Redbird by Torli Bush—a work that is unapologetically both Appalachian and Black and challenges stereotypes, speaks truth to power, and invites us into an open conversation about faith, politics, identity, and hope.
This book club is free, open to all readers, and local book clubs are encouraged to join us.
To complete this experience, Torli Bush will be joining us at Moton for a special event. Experience Requiem for a Redbird beyond the pages as Bush performs selections from his poetry, shares insights into his writing, and reflects on the journey that shaped this powerful work. The event will include:
Attendees will also have the chance to win a signed copy of the book through a special raffle.
Mark your calendars or visit our event on Facebook and let us know you are coming.
Any gift has the ability to make an impact that far exceeds its size. Together we can work to share the Moton Story and ensure that countless individuals know how Prince Edward County became the birthplace of the student-led civil rights movement.
2022 gifts helped us engage with more than 20,000 individuals via our onsite and offsite programming.
Help us continue this important work with your gift. All donations are tax deductible.
